Therapeutic Approaches

A hand gently resting on someone's shoulder, showing support.

I offer integrative counselling, which means I draw from a range of evidence‑based therapeutic approaches and tailor each session to what feels most supportive for you. Every person arrives with different experiences, capacities, and hopes — so our work together is shaped around your needs, your pace, and your nervous system.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It’s based on the idea that the way we interpret a situation can shape how we feel and how we respond — and that small, supportive shifts in one area can create meaningful change in your wellbeing.

In our work together, CBT may involve gently noticing patterns that keep you feeling overwhelmed or stuck, exploring alternative ways of thinking, and building practical skills you can use in everyday life. It’s collaborative, grounded, and always paced to what feels manageable for you.

CBT is one of the approaches I draw from within my integrative, whole‑person style of counselling, and it’s adapted to suit your needs, your goals, and your nervous system.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT supports you to build psychological flexibility — the ability to stay connected to what matters, even when life feels difficult or overwhelming. Instead of trying to eliminate uncomfortable thoughts or feelings, ACT helps you relate to them differently, with more space, compassion, and choice.

In our sessions, ACT may involve gently noticing what’s showing up for you, exploring the values that guide your life, and developing practical skills to help you move toward the things that matter most. It’s a supportive, grounding approach that helps you create meaningful change without pressure or perfection.

ACT is one of the modalities I integrate into counselling, and it’s always adapted to your needs, your pace, and what feels safe for your nervous system.

Solution‑Focused Therapy (SFT)

Solution‑Focused Therapy is a practical, strengths‑based approach that helps you identify what’s working, what’s possible, and the small steps that can move you toward change. Instead of focusing only on the problem, SFT gently highlights your existing skills, resources, and moments of resilience — even the ones you may not realise you have.

In our sessions, SFT may involve exploring what you want life to look like, noticing times when the problem feels lighter, and building on the strengths you already bring into the room. It’s a hopeful, forward‑moving approach that supports you to create meaningful shifts at a pace that feels manageable.

SFT is one of the modalities I integrate into counselling, and it’s always adapted to your goals, your capacity, and what feels most supportive for you.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative Therapy is a gentle, collaborative approach that explores the stories we carry about ourselves — the ones shaped by our experiences, relationships, culture, and the challenges we’ve lived through. Sometimes these stories become heavy, limiting, or tangled with self‑blame. Narrative Therapy helps create space to look at these stories with compassion and curiosity.

In our sessions, this may involve separating you from the problem, identifying the strengths and values that have supported you, and exploring alternative stories that feel more empowering and aligned with who you are becoming. It’s a respectful, person‑centred approach that honours your lived experience and the meaning you make of it.

Narrative Therapy is one of the modalities I integrate into counselling, and it’s always adapted to your pace, your goals, and what feels safe for your nervous system.

A Holistic, Person‑Centred Approach

These modalities come together to support the whole of you — your emotions, your body, your values, your strengths, and your story. Some sessions may be reflective and exploratory; others may be practical and skills‑based. We work collaboratively to find what feels grounding, supportive, and aligned with where you are right now.
